WHAT TO WEAR?

I now have to allow myself 30 minutes to figure out what to wear every day, it all hinges on what still fits. I am what girlfirends have told me is that "awkward stage" of too big for my regular clothes and not filling out my maternity clothes, which I finally broke down and started buying.

My first visit to a maternity clothing store a few weeks ago sent me home in tears. I think it was all of the elastic waist panels and the overwhelming thought of not fitting into any of my favorite clothes. I managed to use my waist extenders for a few more weeks, but when I couldn't take being incredibly uncomfortable anymore I broke down and went back to the store.
Boy was I wrong on that first visit - to my surprise the maternity clothes were unbelievably comfortable, in fact I've decided that elastic-waisted pants are genius! I wish I never had to go back to regular slacks. I ended up with a dozen pairs that fit and some jackets and tops, a good start. People have been telling me about maternity stores around the state and they are all on my list to visit in the coming months.
As I talk to other women I realize how lucky I am that there are so many maternity stores and websites today. From what I hear the selection is much better in recent years. I just hope the empire waist stays in style through the spring!

Congratulations! Awesome news... Your clothing choices are so much better today than years ago. Oh my goodness - you could never find professional maternity clothes 30 years ago - smocks and elastic panels - that was it. Anyway - have fun w/this. You look more radiant as each day passes. We'll be watching!!!!

Congratulations Lisa!

Get yourself a few gorgeous and ultra-flattering wrap dresses that will grow with you. A nice pair of heeled boots to go with that and you'll be all set.

You'll look fabulous no matter what you wear anyway!

I loved shopping in the Old Navy maternity department and the one at JCPenney. The jeans I found at Old Navy were the MOST comfortable pair I'd EVER worn. Even after my son was born - he's now 2 - I kept pulling those jeans out of the closet, until one day, fortunately or unfortunately, I'd lost too much weight and they just weren't acceptable any more. I had trouble finding a bra that fit until my third trimester when I visited a bonafide maternity store and tried on some nursing bras, which were so much more comfortable. Best of luck. My husband says you're glowing on air.

Congrats Lisa! You definitely have more clothes choices than I did 22 years ago! Most of my tops and dresses were smock-style with big bows tied at the neck - yuk!! Nowadays, I sometimes find myself admiring clothes and looking to see the size before I realize that they're maternity clothes, lol.
I know a lot of my younger friends have even used regular clothes in a size or two larger for this awkward period. Leggings are in again - and they would be great around the house. The idea of the wrap around dress sounds great too.

Lisa, congratulations to you and your husband. I was telling a friend the other night how I am looking forward to this blog, ironically she is also your former co-worker and friend Chris, I am a mother to three, my baby is five and I have seen how the clothing has changed. They have some really cute things today and in the end you will have your favorites. You will also come to a point where you stop buying for you and start buying those cute outfits for the baby. My best to you and your husband. Lynda

Your surprise and delight at the comfort of maternity clothes will only be matched by your delight in maternity underwear & bras in a few months. :-) I broke down and spent more than I thought I would at a well-known maternity store in West Hartford Center, but I was glad I did. I felt good about myself and still professional throughout my pregnancy. Enjoy the experience!

Lisa -
First of all - Congrats! I had a baby girl in March and it is amazing how much she has grown in the nine months since. She has 4 teeth, creeps, smiles, laughs, all that fun stuff. Enjoy every second of your pregnancy no matter how tired or sick you get, there are fun parts too.
As for the clothes, I like you thought oh no - I have to wear those? Much to my surprise, they weren't as bad as I thought. I still wear some (sweaters mostly but some pants too). Try to find something along those lines. No one can tell :-) Also try Old Navy - got lots of great things there.
Good luck - can't wait to keep reading the rest of the blog. Happy Holidays!
Samantha
